This is the web-site of the Drummond Community Big Band.
We mainly play jazz standards, with a few rock/pop tunes thrown into the mix. For more details have a look at our music library via the navigation button on the left.
Our rhythm section usually comprises of drummer, electric-bass, guitar and keyboards. In the sax section, we can have up to two tenors, and two or three altos. A couple of trumpets and a trombone make up the brass section.
Since the big band was formed about nine years ago by our guitarist, Nikki McLeod. Tuition and guidance has been provided by Haftor Medboe and currently Ruari Wilson.
Ruari was one of the original DCBB band members, playing trumpet and flugelhorn. He is a part-time music lecturer for Motherwell College, working in the prison system, so don't cause any trouble or you could find yourself "counting bars"...just joking. Ruari has previously directed RBLS Big Band, who have performed at the North Sea and Montreal international jazz festivals.
Our members have a wide range of musical experience, so everyone is welcome.
Because we are part of the Adult Education programme, there is a termly fee, with concessions for senior citizens, students in full-time education, and the unwaged.
After band practice, a few of our members usually adjourn to one of the pubs in Broughton Street for light refreshments and a chat. New members are positively encouraged to come along.
We tend to have an informal gig at the end of each term for family, friends and previous band members..
During the summer we usually have some public gigs at various festivals in and around Edinburgh.
If you are interested in joining us drop in at one of our band practices or visit our "Contact Us" page.
